Ch 1: The green plant producer of food
Q1. What is called the kitchen of the plants?
Ans. Leaves are called the kitchen of plants
Q2. Define leaf blade.
Ans. The flat part of the leaf.
Q3. What is midrib?
Ans. The central vein of the leaf.
Q4. How will you define photosynthesis?
Ans. The process of making food by the plants in the
presence of Sunlight and by the use of carbon dioxide, water and Minerals.
Q5. What are parasites?
Ans. Organisms which drive their food from other
living organisms are called parasites.
Q6. Draw the structure of the leaf showing its various
parts
Ans.
Q7. What is needed by leaf to make food?
Ans. Leaf needs Sunlight, Water air and Mineral to
make food.
Q8. How does dodder get its food?
Ans. It takes the food prepared by the green plants.
Q9. What is the function of stomata?
Ans. Stomata help in the exchange of gases and
transpiration
Q10. From where do non-green plants get their food?
Ans. Plants like mushrooms get their food from dead
and decaying matter and some plants like dodder, they get their food from Green
plants.
Q11. How will you test the presence of starch in a
leaf?
Ans. 1. Take a leaf and boil it in water
2. then boil the leaf in alcohol thoroughly.
3. Wash the leaf under the cold water.
4. then perform the iodine test.
5. the colour of the leaf will be turn blue-black
This shows that the start is present in the leaf.
Q12. How do plants use the food prepared by them?
Ans. The food prepared in the form of glucose is
used to get energy and the growth of the plant. Extra food is stored in the form of
starch.
Q13. How do plants and animals interdependent?
Ans. Plants provide shelter and oxygen for animals.
Animals provide carbon dioxide and help in pollination. In this way, plants
and animals are interdependent.
Q14. Why is it important to maintain a balance between
plants and animals in nature?
Ans. If the number of animals will increase, then the food provided by the plants will not be sufficient for the animals. If the number
of plants increases, then the carbon dioxide requirement of the plants will not
be met.
